In common usage contemporaries are Objects whose lifetimes overlap.

For our purposes I would like to tighten up on this definition to require that they share a common instant we are going to call now, even if they do not agree on what time now is. This is motivated, as you will see, by the possibility that objects whose lifetimes overlap might not share any common instants.
