On this display check out the behavior of the logistic (quadratic) function under iteration. Start with the initial gain of 2.7 and run up through the base iteration numbers to about 15. The slide controls adjust gain and base iteration. (They work like the scroll bars at the edge of a window.) Then with the base iteration number at 15, change the gain. As the gain changes take note of what happens at about 2.8, 3.4 and 3.5. Because this is only the 15th iteration the transitions in shape are not as sharp as they are at higher iteration numbers but you should be able to detect some interesting features.

We use the term "base" iteration because the selected iteration will be the function to be iterated in future examples.
